Are the GOP's proposals to eliminate the gasoline tax an annual rite of spring?
Q. It seems that every spring when Americans start to express fear and anger over the skyrocketing prices at the gas pumps, somebody in the Republican party goes on TV and says that they want to "temporarily repeal" the federal gasoline tax in order to alleviate the problem. If $3.60 per gallon is the problem, why do they think $3.42 per gallon is the solution? When gas hits $4.00 per gallon this summer, will $3.82 NOT be a problem? With gasoline prices up over 100% in the last few years, I personally don't think a "mere 95%" increase is the utopian scenario, they want us to believe. Plus, eliminating the gas tax (like John McCain just proposed today) would remove the funding source for highway construction, maintenance, and repair. It would… [cont.]

Can someone help me start start a business in art?
Q. I want to get an SBA Loan or a Grant to start my own business and I am totally at a loss as to what to do and where to start. I am highly skilled in drawing was offered to teach at Limestone Collage in Augusta Ga. when I was 18. But I was too scared at the time. Due to the fact all I knew how to do was draw, not teach. I am now currently unemployed and lack all the skills and knowledge of how to get a loan or a grant or even write a business plan. Here is just a few samples of my art work: i have been published a few times as well. But as I stated I have no clue as to how what, where and when to start a business. I have been in Construction/Maintenance all my life and I have no business skills dealing with paperwork for filing… [cont.]

A. Often communities will have an arts program. If you go that route you may find that you can be brought in under one of their programs without having to go through the grant headache yourself. Check your local phone book. If you don't see anything, try the Chamber of Commerce for your city. They are often in the know about such things. If you still have no luck, try the nearest museum, art gallery, or art club to get the information. For instance, in our state/town there are artist programs that allow the artist to live in various designated homes throughout the state to be able to be in residence on rotation to the local public schools. Artists have time to create their own artwork but primarily they will be responsible for putting… [cont.]
