Design is the planning that lays the basis for the making of every object or system. It can be used both as a noun and as a verb and, in a broader way, it means applied arts and engineering (See design disciplines below). As a verb, "to design" refers to the process of originating and developing a plan for a product, structure, system, or component with intention. As a noun, "a design" is used for either the final (solution) plan (e.g. proposal, drawing, model, description) or the result of implementing that plan in the form of the final product of a design process. This classification aside, in its broadest sense no other limitations exist and the final product can be anything from socks and jewellery to graphical user interfaces and charts. Even virtual concepts such as corporate identity and cultural traditions such as celebration of certain holidays are sometimes designed. More recently, processes (in general) have also been treated as products of design, giving new meaning to the term "process design". The person designing is called a designer, which is also a term used for people who work professionally in one of the various design areas, usually also specifying which area is being dealt with (such as a fashion designer, concept designer or web designer). Designing often requires a designer to consider the aesthetic, functional, and many other aspects of an object or a process, which usually requires considerable research, thought, modeling, interactive adjustment, and re-design. With such a broad definition, there is no universal language or unifying institution for designers of all disciplines. This allows for many differing philosophies and approaches toward the subject. However, serious study of design demands increased focus on the design process. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How do you design an interactive site that allows businesses to subscribe or post their information? Q. I would like to design a content based website that is interactive and allows certain business to subscribe or post their business information. I'm somewhat frustrated because, I understand the process of getting a registered domain and hosting service, and the use of canned templates like yahoo, and google sites. What are some of the tools one needs to design an interactive site where business can post information and members of the site can blog? Asked by Newdirection34 - Sun May 31 06:22:18 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. To design an interactive website, you need: HTML, Javascript, a server side language, a database, AJAX and very SERIOUS programming knowledge and experience. Failing that, you can try to download a thousand "free scripts" and/or CMS, and try to adapt them to your needs. This will take you longer than learning to program in all existing languages (without talking of the frustrations and irritations you WILL suffer by not understanding the "WHY" that script does not work... Failing that, get a freelancer to work for you, but be prepared to pay the price! An interactive website like the one you propose will take some serious programming to do, and experts are not cheap. You will, surely, get a hundred amateurs to quote you a few hundred… [cont.] Answered by unknown - Sun May 31 07:49:09 2009 Ecological design - Is it the same as design for sustainability? Q. Has anyone noticed that 'design (and policy/planning/ etc) for sustainability' uses the old destructive paradigms of growth economics, toxic materials, and single function products, whereas 'ecological design' use processes of design and problem solving that really push green practice to a new standard ? Asked by Kulin Kid - Mon Jul 9 15:53:29 2007 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments A. not the same at all... designing for sustainability sounds like it's designed to sustain growth. that's not desirable in a world of finite resources. small wonder that it stresses monocultures, and limits flexibility and imagination. but it does provide for convenience and reliance. existing products are refined with a nod toward nature, but they still exist and still consume! designing ecologically, for instance using principles of permaculture, allows for a greater use of problem solving and employs objects and landscapes that serve multiple functions. this increases diversity and ability to change. it also employs knowledge and experience from varied disciplines, giving MANY people a share in the ownership of said design. … [cont.] Answered by patzky99 - Mon Jul 9 18:05:25 2007 How do i choose a sewing machine for designing clothes and some interior design?
