From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The term "native" can have many different social and political connotations, in different contexts. In some cases it is a neutral, descriptive term - as in stating that one is a native of a particular city or that a certain language is one's native language. However, in the context of colonialism - in particular, British colonialism - the term "natives", as applied to the inhabitants of colonies, assumed a disparaging and patronising sense, implying that the people concerned were incapable of taking care of themselves and in need of Europeans to administer their lives; therefore, these people resent the use of the term and consider it insulting, and at present Europeans usually avoid using it. Likewise, American Indians under the auspices of the American Indian movement loathe this term. Native American in the U.S. was a term first coined by the U.S. Census as a way to classify all American Indian tribes. And in the context of Nativism, in some periods a potent political force, "natives" are defined as a (predominantly white) group deserving of a special privileged position in comparison to immigrants. "Native" may also refer to:

If so what terms should I use to search with to learn more about it? 10 points best answer. Yeah I have heard about the piramids and the large house like structures but I can't remember where in North America it was. Asked by jack - Thu Jan 10 03:43:10 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. There was no Bronze Age or Medieval period in north America. The natives went straight from a stone age culture to the modern period. Bronze age, Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and Viking, Medieval are all periods of European history and can not be applied to the Americas. The fact is that although the whole of North and South America retained neolithic culture until white contact, certain native cultures also evolved rudimentary metalworking techniques. This ranged from the very crude use of native copper in the Great Lakes and Central America regions to casting gold and other metals in central and South America. This is still part of a Stone Age technology, however. Answered by Brother Ranulf - Thu Jan 10 04:42:47 2008 Is there a loan for native americans to purchase a home not on a reservation?
Q. I want to purchase a home and I think with me being of native american descent, I would get a better rate. The only programs i can find are for home purchases on reservations. Asked by Jonathan O - Sun Apr 27 12:46:35 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. HUD's Indian Home Loan Guarantee Program (Section 184) is the only one I've heard of, other than various state or tribal specific loans or housing. The program was developed specifically for Native Americans seeking homeownership opportunities on fee simple land in an Indian area, on Tribal Trust Land, or on individually allotted land on a reservation.
